Simonson, age 91, of Mankato, died on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1706 Lee Blvd. North Mankato with Rev. Bob Stover officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Dawson, MN on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23 from 2-4 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton with a time of sharing memories with the family. Mavis was born on August 23, 1923 in Fenton Township to Ludwig and Anna (Larson) Holm. She was one of nine children. On April 22, 1955, Mavis was united in marriage to Forrest Simonson. They farmed together in Dawson, until Forrest's death in 1960. Mavis moved to Slayton and raised her son Dale. She was very active in Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. She taught Sunday school, was involved in the ladies circle, and did mission work and quilting. Mavis enjoyed baking, canning, making lefse, and gardening. Her yard was her pride and joy. She was always there to help a person out when needed. Mavis moved to Keystone in Mankato in 2011. Mavis is survived by her son, Dale (Diana) of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Sophie and Dylan of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Lenora, Martha, Henry, Arthur, Thelma, Oscar, Joyce, and Harold.
