She was the oldest child born to Louis and Alma (Schroeder) Hopp. Lanita married Roland Kettner July 20, 1942. Together, the couple raised six children teaching them the value of hard work. For her children, Lanita would drop what she was doing in order to support them. Lanita loved being on the farm; raising chickens, working in the garden and growing flowers. She was proud of the many grain, flower and baking exhibits she would enter in the county fairs; many times bringing home grand champion ribbons. Her lemon meringue pie and rhubarb desserts would often be the first to go at any bake sale! Lanita was proud of her German heritage and loved getting to visit her son, Larry, when he was stationed in Germany in 1970 with her daughter, Jean. She was a longtime member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato. In her free time, Lanita enjoyed dancing to old time polka music, waltzes and any type of German music. Lanita moved off the farm and into Oak Terrace Assisted Living in September of 2014. She passed away June 21, 2015 at Oak Terrace surrounded by her family. She is survived by her children; Lynnis (Marvanna) Kettner of Winthrop, LeAnn (Gerry) Sweet of Bloomington, Cheryl Pederson of Hector, Larry (Linda) Kettner of Kasota, Lyle Kettner of Nicollet, Jean (Tom) Lindemann of Spicer; grandchildren, Todd (Paula) Kettner, Michael (Kelly) Kettner, Kristin (Roger) Edwardson; great grandchildren, Mitchell Kettner, Alison Kettner, Andrew Kettner, Zachary Kettner, Brianna Kettner, and Riley Edwardson; brother, Elroy (Myrna) Hopp; and nieces and nephews.
