Olson - Tichenor Funeral Home 307 NE Main Street Mapleton, Minnesota 56065 507-524-3616 Funeral services for Ethel Mae Krengel (Jans) will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mapleton Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Union Cemetery following the service. Olson - Tichenor Funeral home has been entrusted with final arrangements. Ethel was born October 16, 1922 in Medo Township to Julius and Dorothea (Lamb) Jans. Her family rented various farms around Pemberton, where she graduated high school. Ethel was a simple, yet full blooded German. Her grandparents came to America from Germany after spending three weeks on a ship. Her hard work ethics pared well with living on the farm. In December of 1944, Ethel married Otto Krengel at St. John's Lutheran Church and started a life with Otto on his family farm. Together, the couple had two sons, Robert and Gerald. Until Otto's death in 2011 the couple was inseparable; where one went the other followed. Ethel enjoyed gardening and working on the farm with Otto. She is survived by her son, Robert of Mapleton; sister-in-law, Darlene Jans of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; son, Gerald and all her brothers and sisters, Arlene Shaw, Harold, Vernon, Irvin and Donald; ending to a generation of Jans.
