Bernice E. Hutchens 648 South Main Street Lake Crystal, Minnesota 56055 507-726-6161 Her last breath on earth was transitioned by her next breath in Heaven. Free from pain and affliction. Bernice Elizabeth Carol Jones - Hutchens died peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2015, Mother's Day at Hillcrest Health Care Center. She was born February 7, 1924 in Butternut Valley Township, Blue Earth County to Evan and Lulu (Halvorson) Jones. Bernice was united in marriage to Cuther D. Hutchens on April 15, 1944 in Lake Crystal. She was a homemaker, a cook in several area restaurants, besides raising 12 children with Cuther. She was known for her pies and egg coffee. She always found time to participate in the church women's circle, delivery of Meals on Wheels and support the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. One of her greatest feats was getting her drivers licenses at the age of 57. This made our dad Cuther very happy. Since getting her license, she always had her purse on the door handle and that is why she was labeled "the Road Runner". Bernice is survived by ten children, Virginia (Paul) Greek, Jenks, OK, Joan (Darrell) Frank of Eagle Lake, Nancy (Jerry) Hillesheim, Barb (Bob) McDonald both of Lake Crystal, Allan (Mary) Hutchens, John (Becky) Hutchens, Darrell "Porky" (Cathy) Hutchens, Bruce Hutchens, Brad (Betsy) Hutchens, and Todd (Teri) Hutchens all of Lake Crystal; 34 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; brother, Gene "Spot" (Addy) Jones and their son, David of Alexandria and special cousin Ruth Ballard of North Mankato; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1986, sons Ricky 1955 and Bob 1999. Rest in peace Mom. You set amazing example for your children as we travel our journey thru life. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal with Andrea Myers officiating. Burial will be at Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Zion Lutheran Church, Salvation Army or donor's choice. A special thanks to the staff at Hillcrest Health Care Center for their wonderful care for the past 7 years.
