Mankato Mortuary 1001 N. Riverfront Drive Mankato, MN 56001 (507) 388-2202 Phyllis S. Dumke, age 87 of North Mankato, died Monday, April 20, 2015, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato, with Rev. Gary Wong officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church Early Childhood Programs. Phyllis was born January 11, 1928 in Chokio, MN. She was the daughter of George and Elsie (Guse) Steuck. Phyllis was a graduate of Chokio High School, Moorhead State College, and received her Master's Degree from Mankato State University. On June 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Melvin P. Dumke in Chokio. Phyllis taught school in rural Chokio, Sleepy Eye, and for 23 years in Mankato. She mentored many young aspiring educators. Phyllis was active in Kappa Delta Pi, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, dancing, and traveling. Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Pam (Larry) Gades Dumke, MD of Maple Grove and Shari (Russ) Larson, JD of McGregor; son, Bruce Dumke, DDS of Prior Lake; six grandchildren, Tim Gades, Naomi (David Atenasio) Gades, Andrew Gades, Chloe Larson, Madeleine and Hannah Dumke. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Melvin in 2008. Phyllis took comfort in the Lord's promise of eternal life through her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ.
