Mankato Mortuary 1001 North Riverfront Drive Mankato, MN 56001 507-388-2202 Karen Volling, age 72 of Mankato passed away March 14, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System- Mankato surround by her family and friends. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Word of Life Free Lutheran Church in Mankato with Pastor Tim Hinrichs officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Karen Lee Volling was the oldest child born September 12, 1942 in Tracy, to Glenn and Florence (Kelly) Lewis. She was a 1960 graduate of Milroy High School. Karen would meet her future husband Robert Volling in St. Paul. The couple was united in marriage on July 1, 1967 in Howard Lake, MN. Robert and Karen lived a short time in Richfield before moving to Pemberton in 1972. Karen started working with the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton school district shortly after moving to Pemberton. Karen's greatest joy came from being a mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her friends. She spent many hours reading novels, playing bingo and crocheting. Karen was a member of Word of Life Free Church in Mankato. She is survived by her children, Shelly (John) Champa of Pine Island, Sherry Larson of Waseca and Robert Volling, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; by her six grandchildren, Hailey and Kaitlyn Champa, Peyton, Harley, and Shelby Larson and Madalyn Volling; sister, Marian Arndt and good friends, Bernadette Sack and Ella Lynch. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert in 2009.
