Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive Mankato, MN 56001 (507) 388-2202 Stanley Anthony Lyons of Cleveland, formerly of North Mankato, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015, at River's Edge Hospital in St. Peter. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Stan was born December 4, 1922, in Mankato to Andrew and Laura (Trembley) Lyons. He attended Holy Rosary through 8th grade and graduated from Loyola High School. Stan entered the United States Marine Corps on September 2, 1942. He served in the South Pacific Theatre. After his discharge on December 17, 1945, he entered the Marine Corps Reserves. He served again during the Korean War and was discharged in March of 1951. Stanley was a charter member and lifetime member of Morson-Ario VFW Post#9713. Stanley married Frances M. Ruch on February 26, 1949 at St. John's Parish House in Mankato. They were married 66 years. They lived in North Mankato until September of 1973, when they moved to Lake Jefferson. When Stan returned from the service he worked at Neubert Millwork and also did gas conversion work in the Northeastern U.S. He returned to Mankato and worked for Kato Engineering for 25 years. Stan had a passion for woodcutting and was cutting trees until he was 86 years old. He also enjoyed rock hunting, making trips out west to find that perfect rock. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing cards. He was extremely proud of his 9 children, 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson (Little Gweebert), who all spent a lot of time at their lake home. Stan is survived by his wife, Fran; four sons and five daughters, Theresa Rinehart (Ken Hvezda), Charles, Kevin (Renee), Jeff and Dennis, Karen (Greg) Krenik, Jeanne (Andy) Queen, Debra (Scott) Schmidt, and Margaret "Peg" (Lon) Ziesmer; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; his first great-great grandson, Bryson Kliewer; niece, Roberta (Randy) Juberian Nelson; 3 great-nephews; his special caregiver, Linda; and many extended family. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Lorene Lyons; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Leva Ruch; sister, Mary Helen Busby; granddaughter, Kalli Kliewer; nephew and niece, Tim and Leonette Juberian; and great-niece, Jessica Juberian.
