Lake Crystal Mortuary 648 S. Main Street Lake Crystal, Minnesota 56055 507-726-6161 Dewaine Robert Thornburg, 81, died peacefully at his home in Lake Crystal, Mn on March 3, 2015. Visitation is Monday, March 9, 2015 at The First United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal from 9:00- 10:30. The service, with military honors, is at 10:30. Dewaine was born March 9, 1933 to Thomas and Elva Thornburg in Estherville, Iowa. Dewaine married Diane Carlson on November 18, 1967 and enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Dewaine worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 33 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Dewaine was a Commander of the American Legion Post 294 and a member of the Color Guard. Dewaine was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Crystal. Even after retirement, Dewaine had to keep busy by graciously volunteering for numerous organizations. Dewaine and Diane were foster parents for 22 years. Dewaine loved to visit with his family and friends, cherished listening to stories about his grandchildren, he enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Dewaine is survived by his wife, daughters, Debra (Bryan) Sowers of North Mankato, Denise (Mark) Kick of Truman, Deann (Robert) Klinkner of North Mankato, Danica (Adam) Schmidt of North Mankato, and son, Darin of Mankato. Grandchildren include Bryanna, Dyllan, Collyn, Brandon, Brookelyn, Michael, Andrew, Jacob, and Ellison. Dewaine is preceded into Heaven by his parents, Thomas and Elva, Brother Marvin, and Father and Mother in law, Carl and Margaret Carlson. Dewaine was a selfless, generous, and loving man with an amazing sense of humor. He will be tremendously missed.
