(Washburn) Peterson, age 100, the last surviving of seven children born to Fred and Anna (Wagoner) Washburn of what is known as Washburn Corner, one mile west of the Rapidan Dam, died on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday, March 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Braille and Talking Book Library in Faribault, 388 S.E. 6th Ave. Faribault, MN 55021-6340. Dorothy was born on August 9, 1914 in Rapidan. She graduated from Rapidan High School and attended Mankato Teacher's College. On January 11, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to Albert V. Peterson. In her later years she worked for 15 years for the U.S. Census Bureau. For many years Dorothy belonged to the Southern Minnesota Gem and Mineral Club. Her favorite hobbies were faceting gem stones, reading, and traveling. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Dorothy is survived by four children, Catherine Clair of Minneapolis, Alan (Christine) Peterson of Minneapolis, Mary (Steve) Fralish of Mankato, and Mark (Kathie) Peterson of Winona; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and good neighbor and friend, Ellen Matzke. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert in 1981; and six siblings.
