She graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1951 as valedictorian of her class. She then attended and graduated from Mankato Commercial College. She married Melvin Dimmel of Lake Crystal in 1953. For 27 years she worked at the Minnesota Division of Rehabilitation Services as a clerical executive, before retiring early due to health. Betty had a heart transplant on Friday, April 13th ("Good Friday") of 1990. She was also a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Since 1980, Betty had sponsored and corresponded with many underprivileged children from India with the Children International Program. She enjoyed traveling, listening to music, polka dancing, reading, playing cards, growing flowers, but most of all spending time with her family and taking many pictures of them.
