Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 2, 2015, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. Tim Biren officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 4 p.m. Prayer Service/Rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the mass at the church on Monday. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church or Hospital for Special Surgery - Academic Rheumatology Fund - Development Department, 535 E. 70th Street, N.Y., N.Y., 10021 for Lupus Research. Genevieve was born November 11, 1918, in Bowdle, S.D. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Saba) Shama. Genevieve was a graduate of Mankato High School. She was united in marriage to Frederick Saba on June 10, 1948, in Mankato. Over the years, Genevieve was employed with Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penney in Mankato. She was a founding member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where she was active in the Women's Guild. Genevieve enjoyed gardening, needle work, music, dancing, singing, and visiting with family and friends. She also took great pleasure in observing her Lebanese heritage through cooking, and in earlier times attending conventions of the Midwest Federation of American Syrian Lebanese Clubs. Highlights of her later years included several trips with her children and grandchildren. Genevieve is survived by her son, Joseph Saba of Mankato; daughters, Barbara Saba of North Mankato and Margaret (Laurence) Smith of Scarsdale, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Gillian, Jeremy, and Cameron Smith; four nephews, William (Mary) Shalhoob of Mandan, N.D., Gary (Tammy) Shalhoob of Dallas, TX, Craig Shalhoob, and Doug Shalhoob, both of Las Vergas, NV; brother-in-law, Joseph (Meredith) Abdo of Mankato; also other nieces, nephews, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred in 1975; infant daughter, Mary Ann; two brothers, Raymond Shama and Victor Shalhoob; and a sister-in-law, Florence Ferris.
