In early February 1954, Phyllis went on a blind date where she met Fritz Niederegger. He gave her a kiss within the first block and her fate was sealed! They were married September 22, 1955 in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lake Benton. This union was blessed with five children, Karen (Stephen) Gibson, Nancy (Frank) Looft, Kay (Gary) Hughes, Mary (Joel) Sternke, Tom (Sarah) Niederegger; grandchildren, Eric and Brian Gibson, Annie Looft, Rachel (Jared) Jaqua, Michael Looft, Maggie (Ryan) Frederickson, Sara (Julie) Fulk, Krista Spangenberg, Matt and Ben Hughes, Mitchell, Megan and Erin Sternke, Lily, Emma, Molly and Claire Niederegger; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Depuydt; five nephews, and one niece. Phyllis was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church for fifty years. Phyllis volunteered on the playground and in the lunchroom at SS. Peter and Paul grade school for many years. She loved to grow flowers and had a green thumb! Watching birds, knitting, crafts, taking naps and raising her family were some of the many activities that filled her days. She always had time for visiting. Her life was seasoned with love and the simple pleasures of living. After 81 beautiful years, Phyllis died January 16, 2015 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living with her family at her side. Those who preceded her in death include her parents; brother-in-law, Joe Depuydt and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Our family wants to extend our gratitude for the care she received while a resident at Oak Terrace. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
