Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 507-388-2288 Mass of Christian Burial for "Max" Sarah O'Hara will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass at the church. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery. Max was born October 17, 1927 to Clyde and Josie (Temple) Crabtree in Iowa. She was the youngest of six children growing up in Tama, IA, until her high school graduation. She began working for a phone company until she met her husband, Robert Varner. Together, the couple made their home in Mankato where Max continued to work in the phone industry with Mankato Citizen Telephone Company. In 1969, her first husband Robert died. She then started working at the VFW, where she picked up many of her jokes. She had a great sense of humor and loved being around people. She married William O'Hara December 22, 1976. Together, the couple enjoyed being with their nine children, golfing at Minneopa Golf Course and playing cards with friends. Max also enjoyed bowling and playing bridge. In March of 2014, Max made her home at Monarch Meadows in North Mankato where she passed away December 31, 2014 at the age of 87. Max is survived by her children, Linda Cassett of North Mankato and James (Alicia) Varner of Ottumwa, IA; stepchildren, Linda (Robert) Johnson of Simi Valley, CA, Sharon (Howard) Hewitt of North Mankato, Nancy (James) Korkow of Canistota, SD, James (Julie) O'Hara of North Mankato, Diane (Bill) Seitzer of St. Peter, Patrick (Kathy) O'Hara of Bloomington, Timothy (Amy) O'Hara of Bloomington; twenty grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Pillard and also a large, loving extended family, including many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert and second husband, William; siblings, Darla, Gertrude, Edgar, and Joseph.
