Mankato Mortuary 1001 N Riverfront Dr Mankato, MN 56001 507-388-2202 Creighton Corky' James, age 85 of Mankato, died on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Oaklawn Health Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 15, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or Hospice Care. Corky was born on July 4, 1929 in Mankato to Gwilym and Theresa James. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Ramona Johnson on November 23, 1949. Corky worked at Northern States Power for 39 years, retiring on August 1, 1988. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he served as a lead usher for 25 years. He was an executive board member of IBEW Local Union 949, serving as the vice-president and 10 years as the president. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and Mankato Elks Lodge. He also served on the Mankato Area Equal Rights Commission as a labor representative for 9 years. Corky and Mona enjoyed extensive travels together that took them to all 50 states, 7 European countries, Canada, and Mexico. He enjoyed golf, fantasy football, and softball (playing and watching). Although his journey was difficult, Corky was fortunate enough to celebrate two wonderful milestones: to celebrate his 65th wedding anniversary with Mona and the birth of his twin great-grandchildren. Corky is survived by his wife, Mona; six children, Daniel (Nadya) James, Susan (Daniel) Cahow, Douglas (Karen) James, Gregory James, Thomas (Mary) James, and Timothy (Heidi) James; ten grandchildren, Monique (Brandon) Mitchell, Trudy James (Glen Chichenoff), Nick James, Lukas James, Leah Cahow, Colton Cahow, Cory (Angie) James, Ashley (John) Katelhut, Elizabeth James, Taylor James, and Kelli James; seven great-grandchildren, Ryker Mitchell, Olivia Chichenoff, Carter James, Hannah James, Connor Katelhut, Riley Katelhut, and Jordan Katelhut; three sister-in-laws; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives. Corky is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Trevor, Forrest, and Dean; two sisters, Shirley Sandmeyer and June James; and son, David Karl James. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the care hospice provided during Corky's illness.
