Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 (507) 388-2288 Emma Dorothea Speck, age 91, of Good Thunder, died Monday, December 1, 2014, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato. Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer Jr. officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Good Thunder. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice. Emma was born on October 16, 1923, in Lyra Township. She was the daughter of William and Emma (Bahreis) Miller. Emma attended Blue Earth County School District 126. She was united in marriage to Robert Speck on May 4, 1952, in Good Thunder. Emma was a homemaker for her family and assisted Robert with their farm. She was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. Emma enjoyed working on their farm, including milking cows for over 35 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking pies and bread, gardening, and crocheting. Her greatest joy was getting together with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always loved a good visit with friends and family. Emma is survived by her five children, Herman Speck of Vernon Center, Arlene (Don) Appel of Mapleton, Margaret Speck of Northfield, Sharon Speck-Edwards of Good Thunder, and Paul Speck of Good Thunder; six grandchildren, Amanda Appel, Bill Appel, Jason (special friend, Krista Johnson) Appel, Theresa Appel, Daniel (special friend, Laura Freis) Appel, and Emily (special friend, Brock Fischer) Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Emma Appel and Liam Appel; one brother, Herman (Grace) Miller of Waldorf; also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2008; two sisters, Martha Wilson and Ann (David) Nicholson; and one brother, Walter Miller.
