Mankato Mortuary 1001 N. Riverfront Dr. Mankato, MN 56001 (507) 388-2202 Leonard J. Schwamberger, age 92, of Lake Crystal, died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Pathstone Living. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church with Rev. Tim Biren officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary with a 4:00 p.m. rosary and prayer service. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Leonard was born on April 20, 1922 in Rapidan Township to William and Agnes (Funfsinn) Schwamberger. Leonard enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater. He was a Gunner's mate, first class and a gun captain. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. On November 29, 1947, Leonard was united in marriage to Betty Esser at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He farmed for many years in the Mankato area. He enjoyed bird watching, building bird feeders, and traveling. His greatest joys in life were his wife and children. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Leonard is survived by his children, Mark (Linda) Schwamberger of Garden City, Dave (Julia) Schwamberger of Mankato, Peter (Lisa) Schwamberger of Mankato, Mary (Joseph) Lehn of Hokah, MN; daughter-in-law, Nancy Schwamberger of North Mankato; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; son, Steven; daughter, Jane; grandchildren, Matthew, John, and Joseph; and seven siblings.
