Collis, age 88 of Lake Crystal, died November 10, 2014 at Crystal Season's Assisted Living, Lake Crystal, MN. Graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the 11:00 a.m., memorial service, Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal. Lunch will follow the service. Lake Crystal Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Velma was born on April 26, 1926 in Lake Crystal to George and Vivian (Bowen) Sutherland. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1944 and Mankato's Teachers College in 1947. Velma was united in marriage to Omar M. Collis in 1948. Velma taught school for a number of years and she and Omar built and operated the Collis C Store' for many years. Velma is survived by her son, Noel (Deb) Collis, daughter, Susan (Collis) Brad Peterson, and son, Paul Collis and special friend, Amanda Johnson, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Al Sutherland (2013); and one daughter, Wendy in 1992. The family suggest that any donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Collis Field' in Lake Crystal, MN.
