Mankato Mortuary 1001 N. Riverfront Drive Mankato, MN 56001 (507) 388-2202 Marvena Jeanette "Marti" Childe, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, age 61, of Mankato, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 5th, 2014, at her home. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, November 14th, 2014, at Mankato Mortuary, with Rev. Dave Garwick officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Eagle Lake American Legion Post 617 Auxiliary. Marti was born on May 16th, 1953, in Emporia, KS, to Martin and Billie Jean (Chubbuck) Miller, and was a graduate of Emporia Vocational Technical College with a degree in Office Occupations. Marti was united in marriage to Wesley "Wes" Childe on June 24, 1972, in Emporia, and was employed as a receptionist for several companies around Mankato. Marti was president and an active member of the Eagle Lake American Legion Post 617 Women's Auxiliary, where she participated in a range of events and called bingo. She was also a member of numerous car clubs with her '54 Ford convertible she named "Sadie." Marti was often found with a book, connecting with others on her iPad, skunking her family at Cribbage, and watching the Vikings. Her playful personality and unbridled laughter brightened the room and the people around her. Those she came in contact with described her as fun, exciting, uplifting, loveable, devoted, giggly, fun-loving, and everyone's really good friend. She was the most faithful friend, and deeply respectful of others. She had a strong spirit of integrity. Marti's deepest devotion was to her family. She adored her grandsons and her greatest joy was playing with them and watching them grow. Marti loved her family with the most generous heart, and we miss her deeply. She will leave a deep hole in many peoples lives. Marti is survived by her husband of 42 years, Wes of Mankato; twin children, Michael (Kirsten) Childe of Lakeville and Valerie (Eric) Jacobsen of Lakeville; grandsons, Oliver and Charlie Childe and Lucas Jacobsen; also aunts, nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
