Adella Angeline (Windschitl) Schueneman, age 79, of Mankato died on Tuesday October 28th, 2014 at Cottagewood Assisted Living in Mankato. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 31 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Adella Angeline Schueneman was born on October 6, 1935, in Brown County's Mulligan Township. She was the daughter of Edmund and Martha (Schroepfer) Windschitl. She attended District 42 country school through eighth grade, Sleepy Eye St. Mary's High School through tenth grade and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1953. Della attained her Practical Nurse Certificate from the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Practical Nursing, Mankato graduating in September of 1956. She attended Minnesota State University, Mankato completing the license requirements to become a nursing home administrator in 1976. On May 4, 1957 Adella was united in marriage to Gerald (Jay) Schueneman at the Catholic Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, MN. They were blessed with five children; Jody, Tom, Ann, Richard, and Paul. They shared 48 years of marriage until Jay's death on September 29th, 2004. Della began her work as nurse at Miller Hospital, Minneapolis. In Mankato, she worked for a short time at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital and then for 32 years at the Thro Company where she served as a nurse, social worker and nursing home administrator at Mankato House Health Care Center, Lake Crystal Health Care Center, and Oaklawn Health Care Center. Following her retirement she worked part time and volunteered at Laurels Edge Assisted Living of Mankato. Throughout her career, Della's mission was without exception to provide dignity and respect to the patients and residents entrusted to her care. She led by example with enthusiasm, spirit and great fun. Family was her life's greatest accomplishment. She took pride in the close personal relationships she had with her family. Spending time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings gave her great joy. Her hobbies and interests included listening and dancing to Polka music, playing cards, sewing, and canning. Della served as a leader in her professional associations. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and throughout her life she took great comfort and guidance in her Catholic faith. Della is survived by her children, Jody Schueneman of Minneapolis, MN, Tom (Becky)Schueneman of Mankato, MN, Ann (Carl) Schmitz of Garden City, MN, Richard (Karen) Schueneman of Valley City, ND, Paul Schueneman of North Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Nick Schmitz, Emily Schmitz, Beth(Shawn) Jenkins, Rachel Schueneman, Eliza Schueneman, Annabel Schueneman, James Schueneman; sisters, Irene Sprenger, Elaine Haala, Mickey Fischer, Sally Holm and one sister-in law Eunice Windschitl. Della's parents; husband; and two brothers, Edwin and Lenus, precede her in death
