Curtis Bjornson, age 91, of Mankato, died Monday, April 9, 2012 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Medo Lutheran Church in Medo Township, with Rev. Laurie Stoeger officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, April 13 at Mankato Mortuary, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Burial will be held in Medo Lutheran Cemetery.
Curtis Sanford Bjornson was born July 3, 1920 in the rural Detroit Lakes area to Nels and Mabel (Quam) Bjornson. During his youth, the family moved to the Pemberton area. Curtis graduated from Pemberton High School and had attended Mankato Teacher's College. Curtis returned to the farm and assisted his family. On March 15, 1945 he married Betty Koplen in Janesville. They made their home in the rural Pemberton area. Curtis farmed and also worked for over 20 years with Federal Crop Insurance as an adjuster. In 1994, Curtis and Betty moved to Real Life in Mankato. Curtis was a member of Medo Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed watching all televised sports and visiting with friends and family.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Betty Bjornson of Mankato; two children, Calvin (Sharon) of rural Mapleton, Cynthia (Heath) Carlson-Heins of Woodbury; five grandchildren, Christian, Aaron, Andrea, Andrew (Kari), Stefanie (David); four step-grandchildren; several in-laws, Glenn (Delsie) Koplen of Pemberton, Lois Cahill of St. Paul, Catherine Koplen of Mankato; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Bjornson; sister, Marcella Timpane Mortenson; son-in-law, John Carlson; and several in-laws.
