Former Rapidan Township resident, Arthur E. Matzke, 101, died April 6, 2012 at Pathstone Living, Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21 at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Dr, with Pastor Robert Lund of St. John's Lutheran, Rapidan officiating. A light lunch follows. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and one hour before the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the church cemetery later in the afternoon. Memorials are preferred to St. John's Church, Rapidan, Bethany Lutheran College, Pathstone Living or the charity of your choice.

Art was born August 28, 1910 to Ernest and Paulina (Reinke) Matzke in Rapidan Township, Blue Earth County. Art farmed near Rapidan his entire working life. He married Esther Preuss on September 4, 1932. They moved to Mankato in 1993 after living nearly 60 years in their farmhouse.

Art is survived by his son, Frederick (Margaret) of Tacoma, WA; three grandchildren: Sara (Randy) Weideman, Waukesha, WI, Steven, San Diego, CA, and Brent, Bemidji, MN; three great-grandchildren, Karina, Kyle and Scott Weideman; one brother, Pastor Marvin (Esther) Matzke, El Paso, IL; one cousin, Wilmer (Phyllis) Grabow, Hawley, MN plus other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, two sisters, Edna Schweim and Nora Cherland and one brother, Raymond Matzke.
