Gordon was born July 2, 1950, to Louis and Ann (Gorter) Stevens in Pipestone. He was raised in Edgerton and graduated from Southwest Christian High School in 1968. Gordon attended South Dakota State University before joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Army from 1969-71, including a tour in Germany. While in the military he married Susan Mitchell and they were blessed with two children, Seth and Sara. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Gordon worked for awhile in South Dakota and then Minneapolis before relocating to Mankato in 1979 to become manager of Lampert Building Center. In 1983, he married Beverly Swartz and, shortly after, they started their own business together, Independent Paint and Flooring. During his 29 years of marriage to Beverly they had two more children, Amanda and Jenna. In 2009, he started up and became co-owner of Brew-N-Wine Creations. Gordon was a tireless worker in both of his businesses and always put 100 percent into everything he did. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he worked with the outreach program, sang in the choir, went on mission trips with the youth group, and served on numerous committees. He was involved in Habitat for Humanity, the Mankato VFW, and the Mankato American Legion. Gordon enjoyed the outdoors, playing golf, softball, bowling, fishing, canoeing and camping. One of his favorite weekend activities was setting up his RV at Hidden Bluffs Campground in Spring Grove with his wife Bev and entertaining guests. He also enjoyed brewing and bottling his own beer and wine. Most of all Gordon enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was proud of his children and granddaughter, Caitlin, and rarely missed an opportunity to visit with them.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Beverly of Mankato; four children, Seth Stevens of Minneapolis, Sara Stevens of Anoka, Amanda Stevens of Mankato, and Jenna (Luke) Stevens-Royer of St. Paul; one grandchild, Caitlin Clinger; five siblings, Mary Ann DeGroot of Edgerton, Rosella (Dennis) Dockter of Starkweather, N.D., Roy (Julie) Stevens of Pipestone, Renett Geyer of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Craig (Tami) Stevens of Pipestone; many nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Kyle Stevens; and two brothers-in-law, Daryl DeGroot and Dale Geyer.
