Joan Elizabeth Roth, age 87, of Lake Crystal, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at her home in Lake Crystal.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal with Rev. Debbie King Quale officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Joan Elizabeth was born May 12, 1924 to Ralph and Ada (Upson) Norman in Judson Township, Blue Earth County. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1941. Joan later attended the University of Minnesota Farm School in St. Paul, and also completed Nurse's Aide Training. On January 19, 1946, she married John W. Roth at First United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal. Joan worked for 20 years as a Nurse's Aide at the Lake Crystal Nursing Home. She also worked for Blue Earth County Public Health as a Home Health Aide.

Joan was a member of First United Methodist in Lake Crystal, where she was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She also served as Past President, Treasurer, Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, and worked with Missions for the church. Joan was a member of the Extension Club and was a 4H Leader. She loved gardening, following her grandchildren's activities, traveling extensively, including Canada, Hawaii, the East and West coasts, and four times to Europe. Joan also loved watching her grandchildren in all high school activities, with wrestling being her favorite. She was very creative and enjoyed painting and wallpapering. Joan enjoyed the humor of her family, and her great smile, laugh, and dimples will be deeply missed.

Joan is survived by husband, John of Lake Crystal; five children, Susan (Don) Campbell, Steve (Kathy) Roth, Don (Jan) Roth, Jerry (Marlene) Roth, all of Lake Crystal, and Deb (Mark) Fredericksen of Waconia; 11 grandchildren, Kristen (Davey) Pauly, Josh (Melissa) Campbell, Miah (Lisa) Campbell, Eric (Maria) Roth, Tom Roth, Mandy (Pat) Weisbrich, Zac Roth and significant other, Ashley Shaneyfelt, Zeb (Roxy) Roth, John Roth, Andrew Fredericksen and fianc", Jamie Kincade, Megan Fredericksen and significant other, Jordan Peters; 12 great-grandchildren, Colten Benedict, Evan Pauly, Grady and Bella Campbell, Grace and Noah Campbell, Cecilia and Lily Roth, Anika, Jonah, and Lydia Weisbrich, Asher Roth; sister, Mary (Bill) Mensing of Mapleton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beth Norman and Thelma Norman both of Lake Crystal; Alberta (Glen) Samuelson, Rozella (Willis) Ward all of Mapleton, Earlene Meier of Lutzen, Albert (Eleanor) Roth of Laramie, WY; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Ralph Norman; brother-in-law, Alvin Meier.
