Gerald was born on April 4, 1947 in St. Peter. He was the son of Carl R. and Lois (Wolfe) Gunderson. Gerald was a 1965 graduate of Mankato High School. He married JoAnn Ankrum in 1968. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Mike, Steven, Tommy, and Julie. Gerald served in the Army National Guard. He worked for Miles Lawrence, Year Around Cab, and then decided to drive semi truck. Gerald drove for Reich Trucking, Brad Thorn Trucking, and was currently with Schwichtenberg Trucking. He was also farming all those years. Gerald enjoyed woodworking, watching Nascar, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, riding go-carts with his grandchildren, hunting, and drinking Budweiser.
Gerald lived his life to the fullest. Life was a party and he was the life of it! If you met him once and shared a drink you had a friend. He loved his wife of 44 years more than anything. Gerald always told everyone that the first time he saw her at the Kato Ballroom he was going to marry that girl. He always had a sparkle in his eye when they danced. His famous words of advice were to always say "Yes, dear". The only other thing he loved more was his grandkids and attended as many of their activities as he could.
Gerald is survived by his wife, JoAnn; three children, Michael (Theresa) Gunderson, Steven Gunderson, and Julie (Joe) Bigaouette; four grandchildren, Tommy & Mitchell Bigaouette and Liam & Ella Gunderson; three sisters, Karen (Oren) Quist, LaVonne (Bruce) Droegemueller, and Corrine (Dave) Eckhardt; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tommy; and sister, Susan.
