McLain Virgle Sandstrom, age 89 of Lake Crystal, died peacefully surrounded by his three daughters, Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his home.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal with Rev. Nancy Dreier, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before service at church. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
McLain was born September 30, 1922 to Willie and Alma (Larson) Sandstrom in Odin Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. McLain served his country during World War II in the European Theater from 1943-45 with the U.S. Army. On June 8, 1957, McLain was united in marriage to Joyce E. Peyman in Lake Crystal. McLain was employed as a carpenter during his life and also reupholstered furniture with his wife. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. McLain enjoyed fishing, camping, repairing, and tinkering.
McLain is survived by his three daughters, JoAnn Bode of Mankato, Lynda (Doug) Menne of Lake Crystal, and Diane Collis of Mankato; two grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) McGinley of Columbia Heights and Charles Menne of Lake Crystal; three great-grandchildren, Jezayah, Jason, and Joyce McGinley; five siblings, Lorraine Richards of Lake Crystal, Jerome Sandstrom of Lake Crystal, LaDonna Nygaard of Austin, Darlene (John) Kotz of Owatonna, Norma (John) Christianson of Lakeville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
McLain was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce on February 16, 2004; son-in-law, Tom Bode; infant sister, Myrtle; three brothers: Norval (Ruth) Sandstrom, Leslie (Clela) Sandstrom and Loren Sandstrom; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sally Sandstrom, Milton Nygaard, and Olaf Richards.
