Pat McConville, 64, of North Mankato died peacefully Friday Aug. 24, 2012, surrounded by the ones he loved.
Pat's family and friends will gather at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, with burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery Thursday.
From a young age, Pat's father Clem instilled a love of the outdoors " from hunting, fishing and trapping, to baseball and softball; Pat loved being active and embraced any opportunity to exercise these passions.
In 1967, Pat volunteered for the Army and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, gaining the rank of sergeant by the time he exited three years later. Pat spent half of this enlistment in the midst of the terrible Vietnam War. Although he survived unmatched cruelty, the war never defined his life; it only made him enjoy the little things more such as the outdoors and watching his children grow.
Pat earned a bachelor's of Arts degree from Mankato State University and a master's of Fine Arts degree from the University of Idaho. Pat was an accomplished artist and specialized in ceramics.
Pat also worked hard to provide for his family. Having spent nearly three decades as a member of the plumber and pipefitter's union Local #455, Pat made many lifelong friends all of whom will never forget his unique personality and infectious sense of humor.
Pat is loved by many and is dearly missed. However, his unselfishness inspired anyone he met and he is still alive in all of us through his laughter and our memories.
Pat is survived by his mother, Mary McConville; his children Amy Coker, Wess and Michelle McConville; seven brothers and sisters: Claudia, Mike, Susie, Brian, Nancy, Marcia and Sara; and his grandchildren Blake and Jack Coker.
Pat is preceded in death by his father Clement, his uncle Pat; and his dogs Joe, Lou, Duke and Pete.
