John Walter Croswell, age 78, of North Mankato died on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Mankato.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Jay Dahlvang and Rev. Collette Broady Preiss, officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Private family burial will be at Garden City Cemetery. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, VINE, or BENCHES
John was born December 1, 1933 in Mankato to Leighton L. & Esther (nee Ellis) Croswell. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1952 and married Kathleen Wilson on September 10, 1955 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut, Minnesota. He belonged to 4-H and won many trips to the MN State Fair with his dairy cattle. John owned and operated Pleasant Knoll Farm raising registered Holsteins. He was a board member of the Minnesota State Holstein Association for 13 years serving as advisor of the State Junior Youth Holstein Association. He enjoyed showing dairy cattle at the county, state, and national levels. He was president of the South Central Holstein Association and served on the Blue Earth County American Dairy Association and Dairy Herd Improvement Association. John worked for Stan Edwards for 19 years during spring and fall planting and harvesting. He also worked for 18 years for Mankato Mortuary.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, sang in the choir for 29 years, and served on various church boards. John enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing, singing, nature, visiting and hiking state parks, and vacationing in the north shore Grand Marais area.
John is survived by his wife, Kathleen (nee Wilson) of 56 years; two sons, Mark John (Sheri) Croswell and Michael Jay (Kathleen) Croswell; two granddaughters, Samantha and Shawna; one sister, Mary Ann (Ellis) Norman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eleanor Thomas and her husband, Alun; and his beloved dog, Tucker.
