Adeline Mae Schafer, age 94, of Mankato died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Susan Cline officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service on Thursday. Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery.
Adeline was born February 14, 1914 to Rueben and Grace (Breitkreutz) Manthei in Morton. She was united in marriage to Warren Schafer at Middle Creek parsonage on May 21, 1937 by Rev. O.S. Monson. She was a member of the Middle Creek Evangelical Church, now Methodist for a number of years, taught Sunday school and was active in the Women's Missionary Society. She then along with her family became a member of the Renville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was active as Sunday School Superintendent, Women's Missionary Society President, and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.
Warren and Adeline farmed in the Middle Creek area for 25 years and in 1962 moved to Mankato where they were members of Bethel Baptist Church. In 1974 they moved to Denver, Colorado where she became Assistant Manager of the Lani Apartment Complex in Denver. She also performed food demonstrations in a number of Super Markets in the area. She belonged to the Holiday Hills Community Church in Denver where they lived for over 17 years before they moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family. Adeline enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Adeline is survived by two daughters, Connie (Milo) Roessler of Minnesota Lake, Wendy (David) LaFavor of North Mankato; two sons, Jerome (Sandy) Schafer of Stoughton, WI, Mark Schafer of Winchester, CA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four siblings, Joyce (Darwin) Wilson of Morton, Ruby (Jeff) Peterson of Boelus, NE, Betty (Virgil) Swenson of Wilmar, Robert (Mary Ellen) Manthei of Rochester; sister-in-law, Marian Manthei of Willmar; many nieces and nephews.
Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Warren in 1997; two brothers, Maurice and Gordon Manthei.
