Elvera L. Griffing, age 82, of Mankato died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday.
Elvera was born February 13, 1926 to Louis and Lydia (Schliecker) Kalbow in Good Thunder. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1944. Elvera was united in marriage to Arthur Griffing on September 24, 1949 in Winona. Elvera was employed with Kenney Shoe Store and S & L Department Store as a bookkeeper and shoe salesperson. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. Elvera was a volunteer at Immanuel Hospital and Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling, walking, and playing cards.
Elvera is survived by her husband, Arthur of Mankato; three daughters and their husbands, Deanna and Glen Janovsky of St. Clair, Linda and Bill Kalis of Wells, Valory and Mike Waligoski of Waconia; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce Kalbow of North Mankato; sister-in-law, Gen Anderson of Austin; nieces and nephews; special friend, Dorothy Wolf.
Elvera was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and an infant sister.
