Lucila Ida Gaetke, age 99 of Mankato died Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato with Rev. Dean Wolf and Rev. Pam Serdar officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to Centenary United Methodist Church.
Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Lucila was born July 28, 1908 and grew up on the family farm southwest of Searles. She was the daughter of John and Ida (Schultz) Gaetke. She attended the Dahl School near Searles and New Ulm Public Schools. The family moved to Mankato, where she attended Mankato High School and Mankato Teacher's College. She did graduate work at the University of Iowa and Cornell College in Iowa. Lucila taught at a rural school near Beauford and at the old North Mankato School. She served as principal of Union and Washington Schools in Mankato retiring in 1975. Lucila entered the Oaklawn Health Care Center in April 2003. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Lucila loved plants and was an avid gardener.
She was preceded in death by parents, brothers, Armin (Marcella) Gaetke and Elmer (Esther) Gaetke and niece, Florence Gaetke.
