Arthur died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living Center in North Mankato.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Jerry David officiating. A spring burial with military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to ISJ Hospice Program, Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Arthur Boyce Hansen was born March 25, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the son of Arthur Nicholas and Villa Marie (Clint) Hansen. He was a 1948 University of Minnesota graduate. Art was a First Lieutenant in the US Air Force as a pilot in the Pacific during World War II. He flew a P61 Fighter Plane in the first all weather squadron in Saipan. Before he got out of World War II, his squadron was trained to be radar observers in jets. Because of his radar training, he was recalled during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Captain.

On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Helen Branby in Glenwood, Minnesota. They were blessed with two children, Jeanne and Jim. Art worked for the Social Security Administration in St. Cloud prior to his move to the Mankato area. In 1967, they moved to Fairmont, where Art opened the first Social Security Office. He managed that office until his retirement in 1982.

Art was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. He was a 39 year member of the Interlaken Golf Club and former board member. He was also a member of the American Legion and a former Kiwanis member. He had been active in Little League in Mankato and Junior League in Fairmont as a coach for many years.

Art's surviving family includes his loving wife of 58 years, Helen Hansen of North Mankato; daughter, Jeanne Bower and her husband, Mike of St. Cloud; son, Jim Hansen and his wife, Michelle of North Mankato; seven grandchildren, Stacy Bower Busch and her husband, Matt, Tim Bower, Stephanie Bower, Ben Hansen and his wife, Margot, Matt Hansen, Blaise Schultz, and Brittany Schultz; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Hansen, Brady Busch, and Caden Hansen; sister, Arvilla Hansen of Crosby-Ironton; sister-in-law, LaVerne Bogie and brother-in-law, Richard Branby both of Glenwood; several nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
