James Hanel, age 66 of Mankato, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at his home in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Paul Nolting officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 28 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
James Daryl Hanel was born December 23, 1945 in Mankato to Arthur and Erna (Blatterman) Hanel. He graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School in 1963. James married Willa Jeanne Moore on May 27, 1979 at Holy Trinity Church in Mankato. He owned the H&R Block franchise in Northfield for 37 years. James was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed Twin's games, Humphrey Bogart movies, fishing, storytelling, and spending time with his family. He was thankful for Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
James is survived by his wife, Willa; seven children, Rachel Gessner of Eagle Lake, James (Kelly) Hanel of Northfield, Victoria (Michael) Kirksey of Eagle Lake, Alex Hanel, Zachary Hanel, Michael Hanel, and Christian Hanel, all of Mankato; seven grandchildren, Destyni, Hunter, Orrin, Austin, Elisha, Mason, Alexandria; three brothers, Daniel (Ann) Hanel of Texas, David (Marlene) Hanel of Madison Lake, Gary (Vivian) Hanel of North Mankato; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Carol Hanel, brother-in-law, Earl Gerbracht, and father-in-law, Donald Moore.
