George J. Bauer, age 85, of Mankato, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Laurels Peak in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Don Rausher S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m., prayer service Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
George was born February 22, 1927 in Mankato to Frank and Ida (Tatge) Bauer in Mankato. He graduated from Loyola High School in 1944. He joined the Navy in 1945-1946. George worked for the Mankato Citizens Telephone Company for 41 years. On October 25, 1952 he married Jean Marion Simonett.
George was a 64 year Life member of the Lorentz Post #11. He was commander of the Post #11 in 1978 and was the Post Adjutant for a number of years. He was a member of Voiture 281-40/8 for 61 years and their Correspondent for 26 years. He was a member of the WWII Last Man's Club and their Secretary - Treasurer for 45 years. George was a Chairman of the 2nd district Legionville School and Patrol for a number of years and was also President of Legionville School Patrol. He was a past 2nd District Adjutant. He also was Grand Correspondent of the Grande Voiture of MN - 40-8.
George is survived by his ex-wife, Jean; daughter Marlene (Byron) Houg, Rosanne Hanson and friend, Joe; sons Tom (Carla) Bauer, Mike Bauer and friend, Missy; brothers, Clarence (Mary) Bauer, Tony (Jan) Bauer, and sister, Anna Marie Hauch; ten grandchildren, Carl (Stacy) Houg, Denise Houg, Rachel Houg, Christopher (Brittany) Bauer, Ashley Bauer, Katie (Jake) Rux, Joleen (Diedrick) Buesing, Melinda Bauer, Matthew Bauer, and Nathan Hanson; nine great grandchildren, Madeline, Aubrey and Brogan Houg, Kayden and Kashton Rux, August Jean and Janee Marie Buesing, Nolan and Logan Bauer; nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, brother, grandson, nephew, and niece.
