Steven Gregory Kunkel, age 67 of North Mankato, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday May 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Don Raucher S.J. officiating. Burial will be in St. Adrian Catholic Cemetery, Adrian, Minnesota on Wednesday, May 23 at 11:00am. Visitation will be from 4 " 7 p.m., Monday, May 21 at NORTHVIEW-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Steven Kunkel was born June 6, 1944 to Gregory and Elaine (Aanenson) in Adrian, Minnesota. He graduated from St. Adrian's High School and from South Central College with an LPN degree. Steve was united in marriage to Patty Drexler on December 7, 1974 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. He worked at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center until he retired. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar, target shooting, his Harley Davidson, fishing, hunting, and he especially enjoyed his job in the medical field.

Steve is survived by his wife, Patty of North Mankato; sister, Diane Hart of Brandon, SD, nephew, Mike (Jen) Hart, their children, Michael and Kenlyn of Sioux Falls; mother-in-law, Mildred Drexler of New Ulm; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mavis (Joe) Lamecker of New Ulm, Eileen (Paul) Hoffman of Sleepy Eye, MN, Annette Drexler of Albuquerque, NM, John Drexler of New Ulm, Sue (Brad) Wellman of New Ulm; many nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Greg and Elaine.
