Lloyd Allen Cox, age 85, of Garden City, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Sterling House of Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the mortuary on Thursday. Burial with military honors will be in Garden City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Lloyd Allen Cox was born May 16, 1926 in Garden City, Minnesota, to Sidney and Pearl (Forrey) Cox. He attended Garden City Public School graduating in 1944. In June, 1944 Lloyd joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served on the USS Nashville in the South Pacific during World War II. After serving in the Navy, Lloyd returned to Garden City and became a union carpenter. He was a life-long member of Carpenter's Local 464.

On August 22, 1953, Lloyd married Mercedes Randby at Rosendale Lutheran Church, rural Madelia. He enjoyed camping trips, Nashville Reunions around the nation and the Minnesota Twins.

Lloyd was a member of the American Legion Post 276, Amboy and VFW 950, Mankato. In October, 2011 Lloyd was among over 100 World War II veterans that traveled to Washington D.C. on an Honor Flight. He truly enjoyed sharing his pictures and videos of this memorable trip with his family and friends.

Lloyd is survived by his five children, Barbara (Dennis) Dobie of Mankato, Joann (Larry) Rosenfeld of Arlington, Allan (Margaret) Cox of Coon Rapids, Laurie (Tom) Tacheny of Mankato, and Douglas (Susan) Cox of Brooklyn Center; eleven grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie and Alyssa Dobie, David (Leann) Cox, Tiffany, Matt and Mitchell Rosenfeld, Eric (Sarah) Cox, Marcus (Olivia) Cox, Dan and Sheila Tacheny; six great-grand children, Blake, Cassandra and Mekayla Cox, Madalynn and Ethan Cox, Jensen Cox; sister Darline (Edward) Ward; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mona Cox of Clemmens, NC, Delores Randby of St. Louis Park, Norman (Karen) Randby of Spooner, WI, Norma Randby of Rochester, Dennis (Patricia) Randby of Amboy and nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Mercedes, in 2006; his parents; sister, K. Gratia Foster; brothers, Sidney, Darrell and Dale; and great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Cox.
