Lois M. Kvitek, age 85, of Mankato, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Dr. Scott Olson officiating. Interment will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donor's choice.
Lois was born on January 3, 1927, in Mankato to Oscar and Olga (Oehler) Pofahl. She was a 1945 graduate of Mankato High School. Lois was united in marriage to Ronald J. Kvitek on February 6, 1947, in Mankato. They lived in Montevideo from 1948 until they moved to Mankato in 1951. Lois assisted Ron with their farm, was a homemaker for her family, and also was a bookkeeper for Farm and Gustafson Plumbing which was co-owned by Ron. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was active in the GLCW. Lois was a 4-H Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Bluebird Campfire Leader, a member of the Blue Earth County Extension Club and a Birthday Club. She enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing with Ron, playing cards, time at their lake home on Lake Minnewaska near Glenwood, cooking, entertaining, and especially spending time with her family. Lois and Ron purchased and lived on her family's "Oehler Century Farm", where she lived for most of her adult life. She spent the last 8 years living there with her daughter, Ann.
Lois is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Garry) Barnett of North Mankato and Ann Kalvig of Mankato; one son, Paul (Terry) Kvitek of Eagle Lake; three grandchildren, Mara (Monty) Natrakul of Mankato, Ellen (Nathan) Saj of Rochester, and Laura (Nick) Falenczykowski of Plymouth; five great-grandchildren, Poom, Anna, Montian, and Mattaeus Natrakul, and Benjamin Saj; one brother, Virgil Pofahl of Longville; two sisters-in-law, Elrene Ogren of Loves Park, IL and Ardis (Roger) Soberg of Barrett; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald in 1988; a son, Timothy and an infant daughter.
