Naomi "Oma" Schultz, age 79, of Mankato, died on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Siverly officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the Risen Savior Lutheran School building fund.
Naomi was born on November 12, 1932 in Rockford, MN to Rev. Henry and Alma (Pingel) Nitz. She graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm in 1954. Naomi was united in marriage to Raymond Schultz on June 24, 1956 in Waterloo, WI. She was a teacher for over 38 years teaching at St. John Lutheran School in Lannon, WI, St. John Lutheran School in Wayne, MI, and Our Savior Lutheran School in Wausau, WI. Naomi was a church organist since 1954. She was also a choir director, piano teacher, involved with prison ministry and was a hospice volunteer since 1997.
Naomi is survived by her husband, Pastor Ray Schultz of Mankato; five children, Natalie (Charles) Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Joanna Schultz of Mankato, Kristi (William) Hough of Mankato, Amy (Rick) Bretschneider of Pierce, NE, and Karl (Jill) Schultz of Kaukauna, WI; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Ramona Heikkinen, Paul (Carol) Nitz, and Marcus (Mickie) Nitz; and sisters-in-law, Grace Nitz and Irene Nitz. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Frederick and Joel.
