Virginia M. Dickerman, age 89 of Mankato, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. John Kunz officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, School Sisters of Notre Dame, or to an organization of the donor's choice.
Virginia Mary was born October 18, 1922 to Francis and Edith (Tait) Dolan in Benson, MN. After graduation from high school, she attended St. Catherine's College and St. Mary's School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. On January 6, 1945, Virginia was united in marriage to Richard Dickerman in St. Paul. They were blessed with eight children. Virginia was a registered nurse for 23 years at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital until retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. Virginia was a dedicated volunteer for School Sisters of Notre Dame, Loyola Serving Group, and Meals on Wheels. She was socially active and stayed connected with her past co-workers, kept close to her community of friends at Real Life Community, and member of the prayer chain at church and Good Counsel. Virginia enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with her family.
Virginia is survived by her children: John (Joyce) Dickerman of Mankato, Terri (Doug) Roy of Watertown, Bob (Anne) Dickerman of Albert Lea, Greg (Sandy) of Buffalo, Ginny (Eben) Ives of Plymouth, Betsy (Tom) Stringer of St. Louis Park, Rich (Joyce) Dickerman of Cody, WY, and Mike (Katie) Dickerman of Delano; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Anne Kelly and Betty Dolan; brother-in-law, Jim Vogel; sister-in-law, Mary Francis (Sis) Lentz, and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 2003; one sister, Patricia Vogel and one brother, Robert Dolan.
