Burdette LaMont Wilson, age 83, of Mankato died Friday, April 13, 2012 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Steve Kidder, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato " Hospice or Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Burdette was born March 5, 1929 to Martin and Clara (Nerison) Wilson in Jasper, Pipestone County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Ihlen Lutheran Church, Ihlen, MN. He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1947. Burdette was united in marriage to Shirley J. Moen on November 30, 1950 in Pipestone. Burdette joined the U.S. Navy in July of 1951 and served in the Pacific on the USS St. Paul, a cruiser as a 2nd class electronics technician. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He returned to Minnesota and began a 35 year career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. taking him throughout many towns in southwestern Minnesota. He was an active member at Christ the King Lutheran Church for fifty years, and will be remembered as a gracious, kind, quiet, and caring friend.
Burdette is survived by his wife, Shirley of Mankato; son, David Wilson of Fairfield, IA; two daughters, Deborah Wilson of Mankato and Ruthann Wilson of Scottsdale, AZ.
Burdette was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clayton; and one sister, Clarice Taubert.
