David Kinney, age 73, of Cleveland, died on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Marysburg. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

David was born on October 19, 1938 in St. Paul to Edward John and Mary Monica (Barry) Kinney. He graduated from Cretin High School. Following high school he attended the St. Paul Seminary. David received his bachelor degree from the University of St. Thomas and his master's in English. On August 9, 1969, Dave was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kluntz at the Church of the Nativity in Cleveland. Dave worked at Hill High School and St. Agnes High School, both in St. Paul. He spent most of his teaching career in the Osseo School District 279 at Northview Jr. High and Park Center Senior High, both in Brooklyn Park. He was a huge advocate for public education and was an active teacher's union member. Dave retired in 2000 and moved to Cleveland in 2001. He enjoyed growing roses and was an active member of the Minnesota Rose Society. His past time included listening to classical and liturgical music. He loved reading and literature. Dave's Irish heritage and close family and friends were very important to him.

Dave is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Kinney of Cleveland; son, James Francis (Jennifer) Kinney of San Mateo, CA; daughter, Cathleen Ann Kinney of New Hope; grandchildren, Quinten David and Breanna Josephine of San Mateo, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara Seitz, and brother, Edward Kinney.
