Deloris I. Hohenstein, age 88, of Mankato and formerly of Vernon Center, died Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 6, 2012 at Pathstone Living in Mankato. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at Pathstone Living on Monday. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Pathstone Living or the MS Society.
Deloris was born March 29, 1924 to Henry and Frieda (Peters) Ikier in Backus, MN. She was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on March 21, 1937. Deloris graduated from Garden City High School in 1941. She attended Normal School in Hutchinson for one year and started teaching at Nobles School, country grade school, rural Vernon Center in 1942. Deloris was united in marriage to Norbert Hohenstein on April 24, 1943 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Vernon Center. Deloris was a homemaker for her family and enjoyed maintaining the family farm. She was a member of Lutheran Women's Missionary League, ladies aid and mother's club. She was active at both St. Peter's and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Deloris enjoyed gardening, playing cards " especially pinnocle, visiting distant relatives, and attending community activities.
Deloris is survived by three children, Norm (Sue) Hohenstein of New Hope, Jo (Steve) Zimmermann of Ridgefield, WA, and Jon Hohenstein (Cherryl Mesko) of Eagan; three grandchildren, Jay (Karen) Hohenstein, Joel (Erica) Hohenstein, Beth (John) Elliott; five great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Maxine) Ikier of Mankato; several nieces and nephews.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert; and daughter, Jan.
