Rev. Raymond A. Schultz, age 82, of Mankato, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2012, at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Charles Degner officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday at NORTHVIEW " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Mankato. Memorials are preferred to the St. Mark ministerial education fund, used to assist St. Mark members attending Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Martin Luther College, Luther Preparatory School, and Michigan Lutheran Seminary.
Ray was born on May 10, 1930 in Truman to Emil and Marie (Otto) Schultz. He was a 1948 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther Academy in New Ulm. Ray graduated from Northwestern College in Watertown, WI and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. He was united in marriage to Naomi Nitz on June 24, 1956 in Waterloo, WI.
Ray served as pastor for several congregations including: St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Wayne, MI from 1956-1959, St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Clare, MI, St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Gladwin, MI, both from 1959-1965, and Our Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Wausau, WI from 1965-1996. He also served as a vacancy pastor for churches in Arlington, St. Clair, and Mankato. Ray was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mankato. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Ray, or "Opa" as he was known to his family, is survived by his five children, Natalie (Charles) Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Joanna Schultz of Mankato, Kristi (William) Hough of Mankato, Amy (Ricky) Bretschneider of Pierce, NE, and Karl (Jill) Schultz of Kaukauna, WI; 12 grandchildren, Sarah (Ezra) Jones, Joshua (Ashley) Hough, Katie Schultz, Emma Schultz, Grace Schultz, Aaron Schultz, Luke Schultz, Sadie Schultz, Joseph Schultz, Meredith Schultz, Garrett Bretschneider, and Karynn Bretschneider; 2 great-grandchildren, Cora Jones and Rylin Hough; four siblings, Thuesnelda "Tootie" Williamson, Luella Wessel, Lawrence Schultz, and Glenda Bode; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Naomi on April 15, 2012; and seven siblings.
