Laurel Fitterer, 95 of rural North Mankato, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Autumn Grace Senior Services in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato with Fr. Peter Nosbush officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery, Nicollet. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Laurel was born March 2, 1916 in Mankato to Louis and Inez (Mullin) Loe. She married Raymond Fitterer on October 12, 1936. They raised their family of six children in the Mankato area. After Ray passed away in 1985, Laurel volunteered at the Salvation Army for 18 years. She was a member of Holy Rosary parish, the Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery Auxiliary, and the Kern's Birthday Club. She enjoyed her family, gardening, her plants and flowers, reading, and traveling to Denver visiting Cathy and grandchildren twice a year. She also enjoyed traveling with sister-in-law, Glenna Loe, to Arizona visiting her brother Lyle and his wife, Ruth.
Laurel is survived by her children, Robert of Mankato, Michael (Di) of Mankato, Cathy (Rich) Shawver of Denver, CO, and Thomas (Mary) of Juneau, AK; two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Deloris Fitterer of Mankato; many grandchildren and their spouses; and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; two sons, Francis and Richard; her brothers, Kenneth, Lyle, and Charles; daughter-in-law, Sandra Fitterer and son-in-law, Duane Wilkins.
