James J. "Jim" Michel, age 93 of Mankato, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Autumn Grace Assisted Living in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 at Mankato Mortuary with a 4:45 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association, or donor's choice.
James Joseph was born September 22, 1918 to Bernard and Grace (Gaghin) Michel in St. Paul. After graduating from high school, he served for the United States Army for five years before being honorably discharged in 1945. Jim was united in marriage to Lorraine Griebel on August 5, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato. They were blessed with three children. Jim was a car salesman at Mankato Ford for 35 years and before retirement, worked at MICO, Inc. for 11 years. He was a member of the VFW 950, American Legion Post 11, the North Mankato Old Mud Lake Gang, and The Last Mans Club. Jim enjoyed his time with his wife and family, hunting, fishing, and card playing. In later years, you could often find Jim and Lorraine enjoying dinner at Applewood.
Jim is survived by his three children: Stephen J. Michel and wife, Bonnie of Walker, MN, Jane L. Styndl and husband, Joe, Thomas A. Michel and wife, Gwen all of Mankato; 10 grandchildren, Kimberley (Paul) Kroubetz, Jeffrey (Charlotte) Michel, Michele Bollmann, Craig (Darci) Bollmann, Jeremiah Michels, Alan, Christopher, and Tami Styndl, Eric and Abby Michel; five great-grandchildren, Ashley Kroubetz, Tanner Michel, Jacob Bollmann, Caden and Garrett Bollmann; two brothers: Paul (Corrine) Michel and Joe (Beverly) Michel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine in 2008; and two brothers: Bernard "Art" (Mary) Michel and Don (Jackie) Michel.
