Kenneth L. Schwarz, age 79, of Mankato and formerly of Vernon Center, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on February 5, 2012 at the Mayo Health Clinic System - Mankato following a 3 " year battle with colon cancer, an aneurism and heart complications.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Vance Milbrath officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue from 9 a.m., until the time of service Thursday at the church.
Kenneth was born May 31, 1932 in Madelia, MN to Lorenz and Leona (Bloede) Schwarz. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1950. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 where he served in Korea until he was honorably discharged in 1955. Kenneth married Marlyce Russenberger at Kimball Lutheran Church, Jackson County, on August 26, 1956. He farmed near Vernon Center all his life. Kenneth was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Vernon Center, where he served 6 years on the council. He served on the school board for the Vernon Center Elementary School and served as a chairman of the board for the Blue Earth County ASC office. Kenneth also drove school bus for Champlin Bus Service, Amboy Bus Service, and most recently Palmer Bus Service/Maple River District.
He enjoyed farming, baseball, bowling, playing cards, dancing, word searches, meeting friends for early morning coffee and, most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Marlyce, of 55 years; four daughters, Cindy (Rod) Boesch; Deb (Jeff) Boesch all of Amboy; Becky (Randy) Shouts of Mankato; DeeAnn (Darren) Wacker of Eagle Lake; one son, Brad (LeAnn) Schwarz of Vernon Center; 13 grandchildren, Sara (Corey) Den Hartog, Brent Boesch, Dana (Ben) Maus, Heather (Eric) McRae, Alyssa (Boe) Burrus, Brianna (Kyle) Carey, Skye Boesch, Ashley Shouts (fianc", Kyle Prchal), Jared Shouts, Cary (Evan) Treanor, Tylor Schwarz, Trevin Wacker, and Kaylyn Wacker;8 great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Danica, Eliza Den Hartog, Peyton and Hudson Maus, Addison and Sophia McRae, Layla Prchal; three brothers, Wallace (Sharon) Schwarz of Mesa, AZ; Eugene (Joanne) Schwarz of Vernon Center; Dale (Lois) Schwarz of Eden Valley; along with several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
