Corrine Evelyn VanStelten, age 90, died peacefully on Thursday, January 26 at Pathstone Living Nursing Home in Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato with Rev. Dean Wolf officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be given to the Echo Food Shelve.
Corrine was born in 1921 in Arco, MN to Mary (Matthews) and Otto Welsand. She graduated from Arco High School in 1938 and then attended Normal Training School in Ivanhoe, MN. She taught in rural schools of Lincoln County for five years. She married Ronald VanStelten in April of 1943. They moved to Sleepy Eye, MN in 1946 and then moved to Mankato in 1950. She graduated from Mankato State College and taught elementary school in Mankato until 1986. She enjoyed volunteering at the Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, the MRCI Thrift Store, The Summit Center and Habitat for Humanity. She was active in her church and loved collecting antiques. She also loved to travel and spend time with her family. Corrine is survived by her son Dale (Nickie), Good Thunder, granddaughters Nora and Sara, both of Portland, OR, her sister Marvelyn Pedersen, Sleepy Eye and a niece and several nephews and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Gary and her sister Marjorie.
