Thomas R. Brock, DDS a board certified Mankato area oral surgeon, died Tuesday morning, January 3, 2012.
Thomas was born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Eugene and Jean (Ruettimann) Brock. After high school, Tom furthered his education in the dental profession by attending and graduating from Creighton Dental School in Omaha, NE, Shands Teaching Hospital for Oral Pathology in Gainesville, FL and the Medical University of South Carolina for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Charleston, SC. During his early educational years, Tom was united in marriage to Barbara Meis in IA. They have two children, Kelly and Daniel.
Tom and his family had lived in Sioux City, IA, Omaha, NE, Gainesville, FL, and Charleston, SC, before moving to the Mankato area in 1995. Tom was initially employed with Curtis, Runck, & Nelson Oral Surgery. He was later employed with the Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, serving the Red Wing, Owatonna, Rochester, Albert Lea, Austin and Mankato communities. Tom retired in March 2010.
During his educational and professional years, Tom had been actively involved and was a member of the Cleft Palate Clinic, Knights of Columbus of SC, and the Lions Clubs in various communities. Tom had several passions, including motorcycles, deep sea fishing, corvettes, and his faithful canine breed, Irish Wolfhounds.
Tom is survived by his wife, Barb Brock of North Mankato; daughter, Kelly Shaw and husband Richard of Pensacola, FL; son, Daniel Brock of Mankato; mother, Jean Brock of West Palm Beach, FL; brother, Dale and a sister, Cindy; and his devoted canine companion, Maggie. Tom was preceded in death by his father.
In memory of Tom, memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice Program or to the Brock family for future scholarship funds. Arrangements are with Mankato Mortuary.
