Long time Mankato resident, Loretta Neubert Snilsberg died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Pathstone Living in Mankato, where she had been a resident since March.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 720 S. Second St., Mankato with Rev. Jay Dahlvang, officiating. Private family burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Thursday. The family prefers memorials to the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Loretta was born July 31, 1917 in Mankato and was a lifetime resident of the city with the exception of leaving the area for college and for World War II years. Her parents were Arthur and Anna (Hagermann) Neubert, also of Mankato. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1935 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended the University of Minnesota where she was affiliated with the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She worked as a secretary for Burroughs Adding Machine Company, Minneapolis until her marriage to Lee Snilsberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato on June 14, 1941. They joyfully celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past summer.

Loretta supported the activities of Mankato and she, along with her husband, were recognized community supporters of the YMCA, MSU Theater and Arts sponsoring 40 student scholarships for the Department, Camp Patterson where she worked as a swimming instructor in her early years, Pathstone Living, Mayo Health Care System, United Way, and Bethany College, providing scholarships for attending students.

She was active in her church and civic volunteer projects throughout her lifetime. She was especially proud of being part of the Immanuel Hospital Board as they made the decision to join services with St. Joseph's Hospital, eventually to form the present Mankato healthcare system.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Lee of Mankato; son, Tom and wife, Jane of Iron River, WI; four grandchildren, Thor (Christa) Snilsberg and great granddaughter, Freya of Brooklyn, NY, Tara Snilsberg of Mankato, Scott (Katie) Watson and great grandchildren, Aubrie, Cassidy, and Jackson of White Bear Lake, Wade (Nicole) Watson and great grandchildren, Ben and Noah of White Bear Lake; sister-in-law, Lucille Neubert of Sun City West, AZ; nephew, Jerry (Dorothy) Neubert of El Cajon, CA and niece, Joanne (Bob) Lytel of Palm Desert, CA.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; brother, C.A. "Nubs" Neubert and nephew, Dr. James Neubert.
