Iverna Sophia Fasnacht, age 85, of Mankato, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Laurel's Edge Assisted Living in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2010 at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Calvary All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Iverna was born on April 12, 1924 in Washington Township, Le Sueur County, MN. She was the daughter of Charles and Louise (Zimmerman) Reintjes. Iverna was a graduate of Cleveland High School where she was valedictorian and Mankato State University. She was united in marriage to Cyril J. Fasnacht on June 17, 1947 in Marysburg. Iverna was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, where she had also been employed as a teacher. She began her career teaching all eight grades in one-room schools. Iverna taught CCD, Head Start, and many generations of elementary school students in Madison Lake. She was nominated for Who's Who in American Teaching and was the Knights of Columbus Teacher of the year in 1992. Iverna received the Catholic Bishop's Action Medal twice. She was active in the Madison Lake American Legion Auxiliary serving as secretary and President.
Iverna is survived by her husband, Cyril of Mankato; seven children, Sharon Gray Hanson Reynolds of Boston, MA, Sue Fasnacht of New Prague, Geri Fasnacht of Boston, MA, Cy (Sandy) Fasnacht Jr. of Circle Pines, Christine Welch of St. Paul, Mahogany Eller of Minneapolis, and Joel (Jadell) Fasnacht of Holmen, WI; grandchildren, Nicole, Jake, Jolene, Mike, Zachary, Andrew, Jessica, Allison, Cinder, Regis, Holiday, Avi, Gabriell and Isabell; four great grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Art, Chuck, Lawrence and Tony; one sister, Helen.
