George Clarence Schneiter, age 86, of Mankato, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
A tribute to honor George will be presented during the 10:30 AM service at Grace Baptist Church in Mankato on Sunday, December 6, 2009. Private family burial was in Jerusalem Cemetery in Judson Township. Mankato Mortuary assisted with the arrangements.
George had his roots in Rochester, MN, where he was born on November 30, 1922 to S.C. and Gertrude (Saam) Schneiter. He entered the US Army during WW II. George was a medic on the Burma Road from 1942-45 and was awarded a Bronze Star for his military service. When he came home he met Janice Roberts when they both trained at Mayo Clinic. They were married in the Presbyterian pastor's home in Judson on June 21, 1946. A baby girl, Marsha, was born when they lived in Santa Barbara, CA. She died as an infant from SIDS. George was an independent watch repairman and jeweler and itinerant 'wheeler and dealer' at trade shows buying, trading, and selling jewelry, firearms, and glassware. He was a member of Grace Baptist in Mankato.
George is survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; daughter, Marsha.
